How do I route and suppress alerts from a rule?

Every rule has a routing block: pick channels, set quiet hours, dedupe windows, and escalation paths so noisy rules never wake the wrong person.

Quick answer

Inside each rule, open Routing to pick channels (email, Slack, webhook, SMS), set Quiet hours, choose a Dedupe window (default 15 min), and add an Escalation step if the alert is not acknowledged.

How to tame a noisy rule

  1. Widen the for duration on the condition (e.g. 2 min → 10 min).
  2. Raise the dedupe window to 30–60 min.
  3. Move low-severity channels behind an escalation step.
  4. Enable Quiet hours for overnight windows.
  5. If still noisy, add an AND condition to require a corroborating signal.

FAQ

Do suppressions apply to auto-resolve messages?

Quiet hours delay them; dedupe does not. Recovery pings always send once.

Can I route different severities to different channels?

Yes — clone the rule per severity and route each separately.
