Setting Performance Budgets#

Pro Plan and Above#

Performance budgets define acceptable thresholds for key metrics. When a metric exceeds your budget, LemWatch alerts you immediately.

How to Set Up#

Go to your site's Settings tab

Click Performance Budgets

Set thresholds for:

LCP — e.g., max 2.5 seconds

CLS — e.g., max 0.1

INP — e.g., max 200ms

Total page weight — e.g., max 2MB

Response time — e.g., max 500ms

When Budgets Are Exceeded#

You receive an alert via your configured channels with:

Which metric exceeded the budget

Current value vs. your threshold

Whether it's a one-off spike or a sustained regression

Link to the detailed check results

Combining with Baselines#

Use Baseline Comparisons alongside budgets. Budgets set absolute limits, while baselines track relative changes from your known-good state.

Best Practices#

Start with Google's recommended thresholds, then tighten as you optimise

Set different budgets for different site types (marketing sites vs. web apps)

Review and adjust budgets quarterly as your sites evolve
