Setting Performance Budgets
Set thresholds and get alerted when metrics exceed your limits.
Setting Performance Budgets
Pro Plan and Above
Performance budgets define acceptable thresholds for key metrics. When a metric exceeds your budget, LemWatch alerts you immediately.
How to Set Up
- Go to your site's Settings tab
- Click Performance Budgets
- Set thresholds for:
- LCP — e.g., max 2.5 seconds
- CLS — e.g., max 0.1
- INP — e.g., max 200ms
- Total page weight — e.g., max 2MB
- Response time — e.g., max 500ms
When Budgets Are Exceeded
You receive an alert via your configured channels with:
- Which metric exceeded the budget
- Current value vs. your threshold
- Whether it's a one-off spike or a sustained regression
- Link to the detailed check results
Combining with Baselines
Use Baseline Comparisons alongside budgets. Budgets set absolute limits, while baselines track relative changes from your known-good state.
Best Practices
- Start with Google's recommended thresholds, then tighten as you optimise
- Set different budgets for different site types (marketing sites vs. web apps)
- Review and adjust budgets quarterly as your sites evolve
