What is a good uptime percentage for a website?

A good uptime target depends on your service promise and the definition of unavailable. Percentages describe an agreed measurement period and scope; they do not replace a response plan.

• Calculate permitted downtime from the stated percentage, the measurement period and the exact service boundary being measured.
• Define whether planned maintenance, third-party failures, partial degradation and regional incidents count in the calculation.
• A tighter target normally requires more redundancy, clearer incident ownership and stronger evidence than a public status page alone.
• Publish a target only when your measurement method and exclusions are documented for customers.
