# Pause & Resume Monitors

> Temporarily pause monitoring without deleting sites.

## Pause & Resume Monitors

Pause individual monitors during migrations, planned downtime, or long weekends without losing configuration or historical data. Paused monitors don't consume site quota for check runs but still count toward your plan limit.

### How to Pause

From the dashboard, click the site's menu (⋯) → **Pause Monitoring**. You can also use the toggle in **Site Settings → General**, or pause many sites at once from **Bulk Operations**.

### What Happens While Paused

- No uptime, SSL, performance, or SEO checks are performed

- No alerts are sent through any channel

- Historical uptime %, incident history, and past screenshots are preserved

- The site shows a Paused badge in every view

- Status pages continue to render the last-known state (or you can hide paused sites from public status boards)

### How to Resume

Click **Resume** on the paused site card, or use the toggle in Site Settings. The next monitoring cycle picks it up within one minute. If the site is down when resumed, the standard confirmation-gate logic applies — you won't get a spurious "down" alert from stale state.

### FAQ

**Does pausing affect my monthly uptime SLA calculation?** Paused periods are excluded from uptime % calculations by default. You can toggle "Count paused as downtime" in **Reports → SLA Settings** if you prefer stricter reporting.

**Can I schedule automatic pause/resume?** Yes — use **Maintenance Windows** for recurring pauses (e.g., every Sunday 02:00-04:00 UTC). See the [maintenance windows guide](https://lemwatch.com/help/maintenance-windows).
