# Carbon Footprint Tracking

> Measure your website's environmental impact and CO₂ emissions.

## Carbon Footprint Tracking

### What It Measures

Every website has an environmental impact. LemWatch estimates your site's carbon footprint based on:

- Page size — Larger pages require more energy to transfer

- Green hosting — Whether your server runs on renewable energy

- Data transfer — CO₂ produced per page load

- Energy consumption — Estimated kWh per visit

### Metrics

Metric — What it means —

CO₂ per visit — Grams of CO₂ produced each time someone loads your page —

Energy (kWh) — Kilowatt-hours consumed per page load —

Cleaner than X% — How your site compares to others globally —

Green hosted — Whether your server uses renewable energy —

### How to Improve

- Optimise images — Use WebP/AVIF, compress, lazy-load

- Reduce JavaScript — Smaller bundles = less energy

- Choose green hosting — Providers powered by renewable energy

- Use a CDN — Shorter data paths = less energy

- Cache aggressively — Fewer server requests = less processing

### Where to Find It

Navigate to your site's detail page and look for the **Carbon** tab. Data refreshes with each site check.
