# How does the Alert Rules builder work?

> The Alert Rules builder lets you compose conditions (metric + operator + threshold + duration) and route matching alerts to specific channels.

## Quick answer

Open **Settings → Alerts → Rules**, click **New rule**, pick a metric (uptime, response time, SSL, visual, SEO), set an operator + threshold + duration, then choose which channels the rule fires to. Rules evaluate on every check.

## What it does

- Composable IF/THEN alert logic per site or across the fleet

- Combines multiple conditions with AND / OR

- Scopes rules to a site, tag, or organisation

- Overrides default notification routing per rule

- Supports quiet hours and dedupe windows

## Where to find it in Lemwatch

 **Settings → Alerts → Rules**.

## How to build a rule

- Click New rule and name it (e.g. "Slow checkout").

- Pick a metric (e.g. response time on /checkout).

- Set operator + threshold + duration ("> 3s for 5 min").

- Add scope (site, tag, or all sites).

- Choose channels (email, Slack, webhook) and hit Save .

## FAQ

### Do rules replace the default alerts?

No — rules add to defaults. Mute defaults per site if you only want rule-based alerts.

### Is there a rule limit?

Pro: 25 rules. Agency: 100. LTD Tier 3: unlimited.
