# How do I route and suppress alerts from a rule?

> Every rule has a routing block: pick channels, set quiet hours, dedupe windows, and escalation paths so noisy rules never wake the wrong person.

## Quick answer

 Inside each rule, open **Routing** to pick channels (email, Slack, webhook, SMS), set **Quiet hours**, choose a **Dedupe window** (default 15 min), and add an **Escalation** step if the alert is not acknowledged.

## Routing options

- Channels — one or many; overrides global defaults for this rule

- Quiet hours — timezone-aware; alerts queue and fire when quiet ends

- Dedupe window — suppresses identical fires within N minutes

- Escalation — re-fire to a secondary channel after X min unacked

- Auto-resolve notice — send a "recovered" ping when the condition clears

## How to tame a noisy rule

- Widen the for duration on the condition (e.g. 2 min → 10 min).

- Raise the dedupe window to 30–60 min.

- Move low-severity channels behind an escalation step.

- Enable Quiet hours for overnight windows.

- If still noisy, add an AND condition to require a corroborating signal.

### Do suppressions apply to auto-resolve messages?

 Quiet hours delay them; dedupe does not. Recovery pings always send once.

### Can I route different severities to different channels?

 Yes — clone the rule per severity and route each separately.
