# Website Monitoring

> Website monitoring is the continuous automated checking of a website's availability, performance, security, content, and SEO health. It is the operational discipline that catches problems before customers do — and proves uptime against SLAs.

## Definition

 Modern website monitoring spans 60+ check types: uptime, response time, Core Web Vitals, SSL/TLS expiry, domain expiry, DNS changes, sitemap health, broken links, content changes, SEO audits, mobile usability, security headers, malware, third-party script changes, and visual regression.

 A mature monitoring setup combines synthetic checks (scheduled probes from external locations), real-user monitoring (RUM, capturing actual visitor experience), and log-based detection (parsing application logs for anomalies).

## Why it matters

 Without monitoring, you find out about problems from angry customers — by which point the damage is done. With it, you fix issues before they become incidents, prove uptime against contracts, and quantify the operational quality of every change you ship.
